Product Information

Introduced in 1967, the TurboTrain was designed by aerospace engineers. The modern, high-speed intercity passenger train featuring tilting cars that allowed passengers to comfortably cruise through curves. Power was provided by up to 7 Pratt & Whitney aircraft-style gas turbine engines. The engines and other components were designed for easy maintenance and seating was comparable to first-class airplane accommodations. TurboTrains went in U.S. service in 1968 between Boston and New York. Canadian versions served briefly in 1968-1969 and later entered Montreal-Toronto service in 1973. The U.S. trains retired in 1976 and the Canadian trains were out of service by about 1982.  
This model features two powered locomotives and a non-powered passenger car with intricately detailed ABS bodies, metal chassis and die cast truck sides plus metal wheels, gears and axles. Additional features include directional headlights, precision flywheel-equipped motors, overhead interior lighting, engineer cab figures and 12 passenger figures in each car. Comes equipped with operating smoke unit, onboard DCC receiver and Proto-Sound 3.0 with passenger station Proto-Effects.
